Background of the Study
As network infrastructures in higher institutions grow more complex, the need for efficient support mechanisms becomes increasingly important. Universities face frequent network-related issues, such as connectivity problems, access denials, and security concerns, which often overwhelm IT support teams (Adekunle & Yusuf, 2024). Traditional support systems rely on human intervention, which may be slow, inefficient, and prone to errors. Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered chatbots offer an innovative solution by automating responses, troubleshooting network issues, and enhancing user support efficiency (Chukwu et al., 2023).
AI-powered chatbots use Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) to provide real-time network assistance. These bots can analyze user queries, offer solutions, and escalate unresolved issues to human administrators. Several universities worldwide have adopted chatbots for academic and administrative support, but their application in network troubleshooting remains limited, particularly in Nigerian institutions (Olowu & Bello, 2023).
This study aims to design and implement an AI-powered chatbot for network support in Federal University, Kashere, to enhance IT service delivery, reduce response times, and improve network management efficiency.
Statement of the Problem
Federal University, Kashere, faces frequent network-related complaints, including slow connections, authentication failures, and security breaches. The traditional IT support system is often overburdened, leading to delayed responses and unresolved network issues. A lack of automation in network support results in inefficiencies, negatively impacting students and staff who rely on seamless network access.
This study seeks to address these challenges by designing an AI-powered chatbot that provides real-time support, reduces IT workload, and improves the overall network experience.
Objectives of the Study
To design an AI-powered chatbot for real-time network support.
To implement and evaluate the effectiveness of the chatbot in resolving network-related queries.
To assess user satisfaction and adoption of the chatbot-based support system.

Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to improving IT support efficiency at Federal University, Kashere, by providing an AI-driven solution for handling network issues. It will also serve as a model for other institutions seeking to integrate AI into their support systems.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on the design and implementation of an AI-powered chatbot for network support in Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State. It does not cover AI applications for non-network-related IT support.
